Re-design of Plaza de las Flores, Güimar

Collaboration with the Architecture Studio of Raquel Guanche, J. David Izquierdo and David Espejo in the identification of species, actions on them, choice of vegetation to introduce and installation of irrigation.

The analysis of the state of the trees, affected by the lack of space for proper development and the damage caused by tropical storm Delta, was the first and most important task. Each species was analyzed, identifying its damage and consequent risks and proposing, after consensus with the property, its felling, transplant or maintenance.

The Canary Island palm trees that made up an inner ring were maintained for their ecological and aesthetic value, which made it necessary to eliminate or transplant trees that, due to their size or location, interfered with their development.

Although the felling of many trees was recommended, it was necessary to plant new trees to provide shade for the older ones that usually gather in the square. The design was unified and calmed with species already present.

Making the square more transparent and thereby increasing the feeling of security meant changing the shrub layer for ground cover species and subshrub flowering plants.

The trees chosen for the playground will provide shade, and colour with their blooms and also, being a new species, differentiate this new area from the rest. Its large leaves will make cleaning rubber flooring easier.
