Drafting the gardening annex for the “Juan XXIII Sports and Recreation Space” project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by Estudio Funcionall.
The design seeks to create a sustainable and aesthetic space that is adapted to the local climate and encourages biodiversity in the city, attracting birds and insects. Sustainability is a priority when selecting species, so we look for plants adapted to the local environment and with low maintenance needs. The colour of the species palette follows the blue tone of the main promenade, with flowers in neutral and cold colours.
Areas of naturalistic style planting are planned, mixing perennial and shrub species, with high planting densities. In other areas the density will be lower, creating compositions with basaltic rocks or using aromatic plants that will be allowed to grow naturally. The trees are distributed throughout the park for aesthetic and shade purposes, including the Acebuche, Terminalia mantaly, Bauhinia variegata `Alba´and Tabebuia pallida.
