Drafting the gardening annex for the “Juan XXIII Sports and Recreation Space” project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife by Estudio Funcionall.
The design seeks to create a sustainable and aesthetic space, adapted to the local climate and to promote biodiversity in the city, attracting birds and insects. Sustainability is prioritized in the selection of species, looking for plants adapted to the local climate and with low maintenance needs. The color palette of the species follows the blue hue of the main promenade, with blooms in neutral and cool colors.
Naturalistic planting areas are planned, mixing perennial and shrub species, with high planting densities. In other areas the density will be lower, creating compositions with basaltic rocks or using aromatics that will be left to grow naturally. The trees are distributed throughout the park for aesthetic and shade purposes, including species such as Acebuche, Terminalia mantaly, Bauhinia variegata ‘Alba’ and Tabebuia pallida.
